Hi Five Figs Friends,

I hope you have marked your calendars for the next trunk show April 3 and 4!

I am also thrilled with the news that Michelle Rhee and her StudentsFirst organization is coming to Sacramento.  A feather in our local cap for sure!!  I don’t know if you are as excited about it as I am but I hope you can take a moment to learn about her vision and mission.

And stay tuned.  I am working on organizing a local Davis group.  Anyone interested in being a part of that should let me know!

The 3/50 Principles!

The 3/50 Principles!

As a small business navigating this challenging economy, the 3/50 Project really caught my attention! It’s mission: To save the economy three stores at a time and to spread the word about the value of shopping in your neighborhood.

By becoming a “supporter” you pledge to spend just$50 a month among THREE of your local brick and mortar merchants. You can see the dollar value of this “nice idea” above. It really adds up! By going to the 3/50 web site and becoming a free member, you too can make the pledge to save your community one store at a time!

Many Five Figs customers embrace this 3/50 philosophy and for that I am truly grateful. It is a key reason I am still here!

Non-Profit Focus

Recently, I read an inspirational story in one of my very favorite publications, Selvedge, out of the UK.  I can’t say enought about this gorgeous journal celebrating the “beautifully made” in textiles, fine art, design and interiors.  It’s a philosophy that I subscribe to and every time I get my issue I can’t wait to feast my eyes on it.  You’ll se what I mean.  I like to tell people about this publication and he is the link so you can take your own gander through the Selvedge world.

On with my story.   I just discovered an organization called Heartwear.  Founded in 1993 by a true visionary Li Edelkoort

Heartwear Textile

Heartwear Textile

,  the Heartwear Foundation is a non-profit association which helps artisans in developing countries tailor their high quality products for export, without compromising the skill, knowledge, culture and environment of the region involved.  Heartwear is committed to long term relationships with the ulitmate goal of having these cottage industries become self-sufficient enterprises in their own right.
I invite you to discover the world of Edelkoort and Heartwear get on their mailing list!  If you are lucky enough to attend one of their events, please tell me all about it!

ctc_logoWe know this is a week in advance, but we wanted to make sure that everyone was able to get this on their schedule, because it is for a really great cause. Community non-profits are very important to us at Five Figs, and Children’s Therapy Center (CTC) is a really great one.

As they say on their website, “Founded in 1993, The Northern California Children’s Therapy Center (CTC) is a nonprofit organization (501(c)(3) – Tax ID Number: FIN 68-0309705) with a volunteer Board of Directors and many volunteers, including parents. CTC provides a multidisciplinary program of continuing physical, occupational and speech and language therapy for infants, toddlers, and children through adolescent age. Children’s Therapy Center has served thousands of children with all types of special needs, various types of disabilities and birth defects. Including cerebral palsy, autism, spina bifida, developmental/learning delays, cleft palate, severe speech and/or feeding disorders, Down’s syndrome, orthopedic or neuromuscular disorders and many other genetic, chromosomal, and/or psychological disorders. We serve children and infants in our well-equipped center as well as in the home and in schools. CTC’s services are available to all children in our community regardless of their family’s ability to pay”.

So…Five Figs is teaming up with CTC and Neesh for a special day of giving!

On Saturday, April 4, a percentage of every sale for the ENTIRE DAY will benefit the CTC. And we will have extra inventory from Neesh for the day, which we know is a favorite of many of yours. It’s an opportunity to have fun and help too! Check out the link  above to their website to learn more about how the performs small miracles in the lives of children every day!

What: CTC Benefit Day!
When: Saturday, April 4 from 11-5.
Where: Five Figs Couture 231 E St. Suite 3

So mark your calendars, it should be a great event!
